The government should give relief to the public in the cost of electricity and taxes

Electricity Costs Taxes Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeemur Rahman Economic Relief Tax Slabs Landlords IPPs (Independent Power Producers) Fraudulent Plants Sit-in Protest Negotiations Government Response Public Relief Property Tax Usury

Why should people pay the bills that they don’t consume electricity, in view of the economic situation, the tax slabs should be abolished, tax should also be imposed on landlords, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeemur Rehman’s address.

Islamabad (NexusPakistan Latest. 07 August 2024) Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeemur Rahman, while holding a press conference on the 13th day of the sit-in, said that the government should show responsibility, relieve the poor from the punishment of expensive electricity and taxes, and the people. Relief has to be given, industries are closing down, tax slabs have to be removed given the economic situation. The salaried class is left behind and further burdened in the form of taxes. Salary has not increased as much as taxes are now being paid. Why should the people pay the bill for the electricity they did not use, all our demands are legitimate, the government is in a state of confusion and worry. Tax the landlords too, the common farmer should pay the tax and the landlords should not pay, it will not work.

When property is taxed, then what is the problem of taxing landlords?

When it comes to terminating contracts of IPPs and shutting down fraudulent plants, which is perfectly legal and factual, then why let it be so? Vice President Liaquat Baloch, Dr. Osama Razi, Mian Muhammad Aslam, Dr. Attaur Rahman, Deputy Secretaries Sheikh Usman, Azhar Iqbal Hasan, Information Secretary Qaiser Sharif, Amir Punjab Central Javed Kasuri, Amir Punjab North Dr. Tariq Saleem and business leader Kashif were present at the press conference. Chaudhary and other leaders were present.

Amir Jamaat said that the system of usury has trapped the common man. They are increasing the interest while not wanting to implement the reservation system. They speak lies and fraud. Since the sit-in started, the government approached us for talks, so we welcomed it. Then disappeared after doing two rounds. Yesterday, we contacted again for negotiations, despite the rulers being frivolous, we kept the way open for the people to negotiate and a long negotiation meeting was held in the third phase as well.

When the government admits that the demands are absolutely right, then go ahead and approve them. If the government is fond of taking credit, what is the problem in solving problems? We don’t have any problem with credit, the government should solve the problems and the credit will go to them. But if they are obstinate and do not solve the problems, then this sit-in will be at every square and not just one. We have already announced sit-ins at all provincial headquarters.

At the next stage, dharnas on the highways while wheel jams will call for a strike. People are with us and want solutions to problems. It is a fact that an honest officer whether he is a police soldier, an army general, an ordinary government or private employee or a laborer or a mosque imam is not able to pay electricity bills with halal earnings, everyone is worried. There is no problem with those who eat through looting and corruption and they are criticizing this sit-in. Ask the common man how worried he is.

So this sit-in continues and will continue. In the third round of negotiations, we have told the government committee that if you start giving some relief immediately and take time for the rest, we will not go like this. The government realizes that this is Jamaat-e-Islami, we do politics of principles. They have come for the people’s rights, not to negotiate on people’s problems, so the government should take a positive attitude.

We believe in peaceful constitutional struggle and will not take the path of chaos and conflict. Peaceful constitutional struggle is our right and in view of the government, it should remain the case that now Jamaat-e-Islami is doing the people’s case, which can never afford anarchy, but the way people are worried and committing suicides, then you should know this. That if the problems are not reduced, then chaos and anarchy will spread in the country and then the situation will not remain under control. Therefore, the government is asked to show seriousness and give immediate relief to the people.
