President Signs Election Act Amendment Bill 2024 for Senate Notification

The gazette notification of the Lection Commission Act will be issued today.

August 8, 2024) After President Asif Ali Zardari signed the Election Act Amendment Bill 2024, the Senate Secretariat was turned off for the gazette notification of the amendment draft. The President signed the Election Act Amendment Bill last night. After which it became a regular election act. The Gazette Notification of the Election Commission Act will be issued today. It should be clear that the Election Act Amendment Bill was passed by a majority vote in the National Assembly on August 6 amid noise and commotion by the opposition.

Bill Muslim League (N)’s Bilal Azhar Kayani and Zeib Jafar presented the bill to amend the Election Act 2017 on behalf of the government members. And during the uproar, the Election Act Amendment Bill was passed by majority vote. The Elections Act Amendment Bill, 2017, called the Elections Second Amendment Act, 2024, introduced the first amendment in section 66 and the second amendment in section 104. According to the first amendment, the declaration of affiliation by a political party is not changed. It can be done while the second amendment states that the party which has not given the list of specific seats cannot be given specific seats.

According to the amendment bill, the candidate who does not submit the party certificate before obtaining the election symbol will be considered independent, in the case of not submitting the list of specific seats within the specified period, no political party will be entitled to the specific seats. Any candidate’s declaration of affiliation to a political party once in the prescribed period shall be irrevocable. It should be noted that yesterday Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had challenged the Election Amendment Act in the Supreme Court. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, through the mediation of Salman Akram Raja, filed a petition under Article 184/3 in the Supreme Court, in which the Federation and the Election Commission have been made parties. .
