Weekly inflation measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) recorded an increase of 0.76 per cent for combined consumption groups during the week ending July 18, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported on Friday. .
According to PBS data, the SPI for the week analyzed in the group mentioned above was recorded at 321.40 points, compared to 318.96 points during the past week.
Compared to the corresponding week last year, the SPI for the combined consumption group in the analyzed week saw an increase of 24.36 percent.
The weekly SPI with base year 2015-16 = 100 covers 17 urban centers and 51 essential items for all spending groups.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group up to Rs 17,732 increased by 0.49 per cent and rose to 311.97 points from 310.46 points last week.
The SPI for lower consumption groups is Rs 17,732 to Rs 22,888, Rs 22,889 to Rs 29,517; Between Rs 29,518 and Rs 44,175 and above Rs 44,175 increased by 0.58 percent, 0.62 percent, 0.72 and 0.87 percent, respectively.
During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 29 (56.87%) items increased, 05 (9.80%) items decreased and 17 (33.33%) items remained stable.
The items that registered the greatest drop in their weekly average prices were tomatoes (4.45%), bananas (2.25%), onions (0.99%), legumes (0.19%) and LPG (0.12 %). .
The products that registered the greatest increase in their average weekly prices were chicken (10.26%), powdered milk (4.56%), gasoline (3.77%), eggs (2.76%). , potatoes (2.30%), diesel. (2.25%) and garlic (2.20%).
Year-on-year, the products that experienced a decrease were wheat flour (31.62%), cooking oil 5 liters (14.37%), vegetable ghee 2.5 kg (11.25%), vegetable ghee 1 kg (10.63%), mustard oil (8.63%), eggs (2.99%), broken basmati rice (2.93%) and tea packet (2.52%).
Products that recorded an increase in their average prices year on year included gas charges during the first quarter (570.00%), onions (105.46%), tomatoes (57.70%), milk powder (39 .15%), pulses (38.55%), garlic (36.05%), chili powder (28.98%), moong pulses (28.48%), men’s sandal (25.01%), shirts (24.97%), powdered salt (24.61%), LPG (23.11%), pureed vegetables (22.73%), beef (22.38%) and electricity charges for the first quarter (21.46%).
